Consequently, Cheng and Zhang also recognized as leading figure for Chinese fifth generation filmmaker. ... few years, the many Chinese scholars are not only involved motion of the pain, they started transfer their eye from national tragedy to national culture and national identity, they start think why the Chinese nation has 5000 years history and culture but have to suffering Those change attractive a few young filmmaker attention who were also obsessed the same issue, they realize Chinese have to recognized their own national identity and get out from shadow of traditional culture which influence and disturb the Chinese nation for thousand years. ... The film truly reflect Chinese national identity by lively character portray, on the film, we can recognize Cui qiao‘s father, who represents most of Chinese old peasant, he has many influences by the traditional culture, those influences control all his life, he works very hard but still very poor, he is very simple but very insensitive, he is honest, but also very primitive, those double characters make his life extremely hard.
