Philosophies of life are unique. Everyone has got to have one – a guiding principle that motivates and sustains human life, even giving meaning to life, and many times when that philosophy is proved to be false, a person may commit suicide because he or she has lost meaning in his or her life. One’s philosophy of life is very much motivated by one’s purpose and eventual goal in life, and I feel there is no “right” or “wrong” philosophy. However, the controversy of one such as “if you feel good, do it” is apparent and I will expound its pros and cons in this essay.
Firstly, despite its controversy, I would acknowledge the pros of such a philosophy as “if you feel good, do it”. Surely in life there must be something to live for, and since life is one’s own, should one not live for himself, so that he will feel good about it? ... “If it feels good, do it” was exactly what many musicians do today to attain the level of playing they wish. ... These virtuosos were no doubt talented, but during their formative years they would skip school simply to practice their craft because it made them feel good. ... This philosophy, while at first appearing to be very self-centred, has worked to the benefit of those who will success. ... For one, this philosophy makes all the laws Man has established become obsolete.
