In both the play Hamlet and the novel Frankenstein the two protagonists can be compared by analyzing the ways that both characters have affected and have been affected by the women in their lives. In the Novel Hamlet I will be focusing mainly on the two most important women in Hamlet’s life: Ophelia and Queen Gertrude. In Frankenstein, I will be using both the characters Justine and Elizabeth to analyze. Firstly, In Shakespeare’s novel Hamlet, the reader is introduced to a dilemma which the main protagonist Hamlet is confronted with. Hamlet’s father has just been murdered by his uncle, Claudius. ... To the reader it seems as if within moments after the death of King Hamlet, Hamlet’s mother Ophelia has quickly bestowed her love for King Claudius. ... As a result, Hamlet soon begins to feeling confused and disgusted by his mother’s actions. ... ” Hamlet in this passage is showing his utter disgust for his mother, morally more than physically. Also the fact that his mother has married so quick also makes Hamlet very upset towards his mother. Hamlet also experiences an apparition where is confronted by his father’s ghost. ... ” In effect, Hamlet begins to feel even more disgusted by his mother’s actions and begins contemplating suicide. This is demonstrated when Hamlet says “O, that this too too-solid flesh would melt.” Hamlet is now wishing he were no longer alive. ... Secondly, Hamlet is also deeply affected by a young girl named Ophelia.
