Therapeutic Touch
Of all our senses, touch is the first to develop. ... The loving touch of our parents and other people around us is essential for our growth, if touch is inhibited or absent, it is reflected in our self-esteem, our confidence and the ability to function and evolve into a socially acceptable adult. Touch may be the last way we communicate at life’s end. Between infancy to death exists many moments where touch with loving intention creates a bridge from one person to the other.
According to Krieger, 1975, therapeutic touch is an act of healing or helping that is akin to the ancient practice of lying on of hands, goes beyond placebo and involves an undefined but learnable method of human-energy balancing.
