1848, the key year in Europe’s history after the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte as most of the revolutions demanding for economic and social change took place. The revolution was kicked off by the middle-class demanding their representation in the Constitution. Along with the middle-class, peasants also took part in it for the reason because of population growth, industrialization and most importantly famine. As most of the revolutions were taking place at that time, the Habsburgs Empire survived the revolution. The Habsburgs survived 1848 because of the revolutionaries, troops loyalty towards the king and the strong military force. One of the main reasons for the Habsburgs to subsist 1848 was because of an end to serfdom throughout the Empire. During the ninth month of 1848 the cause for the revolution was lost for the revolutionaries, as the delegates of the Constituent Assembly fulfilled one of their significant complaints about serfdom. The purpose of the government approving abolishing serfdom was the revolution in Vienna. A document states the condition of the revolutionaries like this: “ The revolutionaries effectively denied themselves the chance of developing mass support:” (Wilmot 81) As stated in this document, the revolutionaries lost their chance to gain support for the revolution because of their own mistake.
