Before the scientific discoveries of REM and acetylcholine, “the dream nerve” , there was a man named Edgar Cayce who had a simple outlook on most things in his life, including sleep. Just as Einstein may have had a predisposition of mentally benefiting from his “neural light shows” (dreaming), so may Edgar have been predisposed to a hypnotic state, which benefited others with information. ...
As a boy Cayce became very attached to the Bible, making a pact with himself to read it through once for each year of his young life. ... ”
It would turn out Cayce’s readings, while in a sleep state, were going to fulfill that desire. ...
There were no theatrics for what Cayce did, he simply loosened his shoelaces, necktie, and cufflinks and laid down to fall asleep. The difference with Cayce was that when given a name and address of someone suffering he was able to describe the exact problem and provide a cure, which may have involved medicine, diet, and any number of schools of medicine’s philosophies.
A reading done on himself and how he was able to achieve this is as follows:
“Edgar Cayce’s mind is amenable to suggestion, the same as all other subconscious minds, but in addition thereto it has the power to interpret to the objective mind of others what it acquires from the subconscious mind of other individuals of the same kind. ... ”
Cayce’s readings, given regularly over the course of his life, ultimately reached around the 9,000 mark and were housed in Virginia Beach where an association was established to share the information.
