Newman believes that the purpose of a University is to be a physical place of teaching a universal knowledge. In other words, a university is a place where men learn ideas, beliefs, and lessons from teachers and classmates that they can apply to their own lives. Another purpose of a University is to teach students intellectually, not morally. A university does not teach us morally, but puts us in positions that we must reflect back on our morals. ... A university gives us knowledge to what is moral and what is not moral. Newman believes that a university is the place for usefulness, or utility, but not training. Newman explains that a University displays two kinds of usefulness, in society and individually. Society benefits from a University because people with knowledge are leaders. ...
