Native Americans had no chance in putting up a fight with the migrating Europeans because European diseases brought to the New World decimated a large portion of the Native American population. The spread of disease, both unintentional and purposeful, was another part of the destruction toward the culture of the Native Americans. Although there was a vaccination for smallpox, a controversial issue sprung up about the safety of giving it to the Native Americans, who had no immunity whatsoever of any of the various European diseases.
