In both New England and Chesapeake by 1700 they developed into two diverse societies. The differences between these societies lied in who immigrated to New England and Chesapeake, their means of survival once they arrived, and the government which they were ruled by.
The people who came to settle and who immigrated to New England and Chesapeake were total opposites of each other. For example, in the Chesapeake region there was a higher population of men who came to work the fields and start a new life in the New World. The settlers were normally young, nothing passed 20 and they were mostly men because women were seen as a burden on the men’s lives in Chesapeake. (According to Document C, which was the ships list bound for Virginia) In contrast to Chesapeake, New England encouraged more families to settle down and evolve to a civilization rather than an economic market like in Chesapeake.
