It was cold and rainy, three in the morning at Springfield College, about ten hours into the 24-hour Relay for Life fundraiser for cancer research. I was running around the practically deserted track thinking to myself how much I would rather be in my warm bed sleeping. I was soaking wet, the water sloshing around in my old Adidas sneakers with every step I took. With the exception of a few lanterns and flashlights, there was almost no sign of life as I passed each tent along the outside of the track. As I passed my team’s tent the timekeeper encouraged me to keep running, “Only 10 more minutes. Let’s go Court, you can do it!” The truth is I did not think I could make it. I thought I might collapse, worn-out from the six miles I had run earlier in the day.
