This movie was exactly what I wanted it to be. I hope I can convey what a relief that is, truly. Up until a few hours ago, this was the movie year of disappointment. All my hopes for the year were pinned on Return of the King, although I'm in the minority and was let-down by The Two Towers. (which is a whole separate conversation we can have some time.) Hulk, Daredevil, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (ok that one looked bad even in the preview) Matrix Reloaded, all were not what I hoped for. So along come the free passes for Kill Bill, and my excitement was tempered with reminders of the stumbling blocks I've tripped over in the theatre this year. Besides, as much as I enjoy Pulp Fiction as much as the next film freak, Jackie Brown bored me to tears. I think Tarantino is a brilliant writer, but before tonight I still doubted his direction skills. No longer. After being treated to 2 hours of mayhem and carnage, this movie EARNS it's R rating, but all done with such a deft hand, I'm in awe of Tarantino's film making skills.
