... ”
The main character, who is also the narrator, Joe ahs a rational way of thinking and that is reflected through his narration. ... The 3 main characters that are introduced in the first chapter are Clarissa, Joe and Jed. There is nothing to special revealed about Joe and Clarissa’s marriage except for the fact that they have been married for quite a while and that they have no children because Clarissa is unable to. However the more interesting relationship is that between Jed and Joe. Jed is a very religious character which is the pole opposite of Joe. There are many innuendo’s regarding the ‘relationship’ between Joe and Parry. ... Joe seems to be focusing on Jed and still there’s no apparent reason revealed to us why that is. ... This chapter has a more grim outlook and the main character- Joe- does not know how to react to the string of polar opposite feelings he has gone through – in the same day as the “catastrophe” he meets his wife at the airport after not seeing each other for 6 weeks (the longest they have ever been apart) – good and exciting feeling. ... A kind of self love”.
This chapter however is most important because it’s the actual meeting between Jed parry and Joe.
