Beowulf An Anglo Saxon Character

Beowulf: An Anglo-Saxon Character
Although it is not known who originally developed the Epic of Beowulf, it is known that the Anglo-Saxons wrote it down. Therefore there are many elements of the Anglo-Saxon culture in the story and most of all in the hero, Beowulf. In only a small segment of the epic, Beowulf’s battle with Grendel, these Anglo-Saxon virtues can be seen. ...      The first virtue to be seen is a devotion to religion, something held very high in the Anglo-Saxon culture. The Anglo-Saxon people were proud and loyal to their Christianity and frowned upon other religions. Beowulf embodies this faith as can first be seen on his trip across the see to help Hrothgar. After there journey is complete and they arrive on the Danish shore Beowulf and his men “ Gave thanks to God for their easy crossing”(44). ... In these lines Beowulf is telling Hrothgar that he is not afraid of death because he knows the only way he will die is if God wants him to.
