The Civil War results were a major milestone in the life of black people, but even though they were physically free, they still continued to experience emotional struggle. The events that initiated the Civil Rights Movement, which inspired African-American citizens of America to stand up for their rights, led the way to the beginning of self discovery and self worth; personal characteristics that were stripped away from individuals who were too afraid to speak up because they had been victimized and humiliated all their life. ...
In addition, three major factors promoted the new Modern Civil Rights Movement: firstly, many African Americans had served in World War II; secondly, many black northerners had become successful business people socially contributing to economic gains.
