Ice hockey is one of the most aggressive, and somewhat grueling, sports both physically and mentally. It takes a great amount of techniques, skills, strength, stamina, and determination to become a competent player. Hockey is a game of weaving, cutting, curving, and changing direction. In order to master these abilities, there are many techniques such as balancing, forward and backward strides, forward and backward crossovers, C-cuts, turning, sudden stops, and explosive starts, etc for one to learn and practice. In this paper, I would like to take a NHL game as an example to illustrate and to review some of the skills and techniques, which these professional players use. The game was between San Jose Sharks vs. Philadelphia Flyers. It was held at First Union Center, Philadelphia on November 21, 2002.
