A Silent Grandmother Is Hard To Find Usually, down-to-earth people are the type to which others can easily relate. Those who are “lost in the clouds,” however, often draw tension to normal situations because they have difficulty comprehending circumstances and dealing with them in a reasonable fashion. Their minds elsewhere, these people have a tendency to irritate those that surround them in their everyday lives. Such is the case in the short story, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” by Flannery O’Connor. As opposed to the rest of the family, the grandmother lives in a dream world, therefore creating strain on her relationships with the other family members. Throughout the story, the reader senses the thick tension that the grandmother creates with the family. Bailey is obviously aggravated by his mother’s constant chatter.
