Hospitals throughout the world are staffed by doctors, nurses, and primarily technicians. Emergency medical technicians (EMT) are almost the most inferior position in the medical field, but have the most contact with the patients. All emergency medical technicians go through the same extensive training. The emergency medical technician training focuses on emergency care more than nursing. Although they focus on emergency care, the EMT can work in any patient care unit in the hospital. A technician that is assigned to the emergency department has the same qualities as a technician assigned to a surgical ward, but will develop the special skills needed to perform in that specific unit. Therefore, the two technicians are the same but yet different and will perform different job duties than the other. When a patient arrives at the hospital for emergency care he or she usually comes in through the emergency department. If the patient is non-urgent they will be seated until triaged. When the patient is called to a room the EMT analyzes and monitors the patient until he is fully diagnosed.
