1984 Last Section The book ended up exactly the way most of us didn’t want it to, Winston was forced into loving Big Brother and everything it’s about. Winston finally finds “the place where there is no darkness” but it’s obviously not at all what he imagined it to be. O’Brien told him early in the book that he would perhaps meet him there later on, but at the time he told Winston they were both thinking the same way, or so we thought, the whole time O’Brien knew what Winston was doing , he knew he wanted to rebel against the party and corrupt it. Winston thought that “the place where there is no darkness” was probably a good place.
