D-Day

Explanation of Project Topic: By 1944, the Germans knew that the Allies, which now also included the United States, would attempt an invasion of France to liberate Europe from Germany. The Allied forces, decided to begin the invasion by landing a huge army at a place called Normandy Beach, which is located on the northwest coast of France. This "Operation Overlord" commanded by American General Dwight D. Eisenhower, began on June 6, 1944 (D-Day). Although American, British and Canadian troops faced heavy resistance, the German failure to defend Normandy from the Allied forces marked the end of Nazi control over Europe. Hypothesis: What is the importance of D-Day regarding the effects it had on WWII and the position it set for the United States as a World Power?
