I am starting, with this document ,a study over various books and their purposes, but let’s just hope and pray that I can continue in diligence and persevere over my lack of discipline. The first book I have chose to write about is the first book of John, which is actually not a “book” at all; it is a letter. The recipient of the letter is unknown, therefore it has been concluded that it is addressed the general church, and it is considered to belong to the “general letters.” We know this because there is no mention of whom this letter was written to, and John constantly writes “dear friends,” making the letter more generalized. John does write about the four main purposes to writing this letter, which are as follows: to add joy into the lives of the believers, to warn us about the coming of false prophets and the spirit of “anitchrist”, to keep us from sin, and to strengthen our faith in Christ, and assure us of enternal life. At first, one might think these topics are pretty basic and ordinary, as the bible seems to reiterate these ideas a lot, but to me, its quite the contrary.
