My interest in philosophy began when I came across a copy of Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I was hooked and went on to read -amongst others- Bertrand Russell’s History of Western Philosophy, Plato’s The Republic and J. S. Mill’s On Liberty. The contrasting focus on the individual and society in the latter pair I found both fascinating and contemporarily relevant, no less so however than economic policy… I am enthralled by the integral power of economics, and in particular its effect on world poverty through international trade. I greatly enjoy reading around the subject and have absorbed texts by the likes of Robert Heilbroner, J. K. Galbraith, Adam Smith and Paul Krugman. I found Heilbroner’s passion and Galbraith’s eloquence most inspiring.
