According to fairy tales, snow is a gift from angels, for a world covered by snow looks pure and simple. In Hong Kong, where I spent the first fifteen years of my life, snow never fell. I often wished to the stars that Santa would one day show me a white Christmas. Yet my first encounter with snow turned out to be a dreadful terror. My dream of a white Christmas gradually vanished since that night but it developed into a strong determination that lasted my entire life. At my first Christmas studying aboard in a small school in Long Island, it started snowing when I and my friends were locked out from the dorm. The dorm heads left us standing in the snow after the prom with our fuzzy dresses on.
