Present and Past Self I am a changing person. I live in changing times and live with changing people. Staying the same through the course of my life would be impossible. I have different thoughts, different duties and feelings than I did twenty or so years ago. I think about why I am different and can only answer that with, I am a mother now. I always prided myself with being different, unfollowing of the norm, unscheduled and unyielding. On July 13, 1992 things changed rapidly. My husband and I had our first son Austin at 3:30 in the morning. We had him in an alternative birthing unit in a hospital. A home birth would have been our choice, but we couldn’t find anyone that would accommodate our desire. We compromised by having a midwife in a totally natural environment in a hospital. We had a totally natural birth and we home within 24 hours. I was ready to rest and nurse my baby.
