As with anything in my life, not just my views on the right to free speech can be traced in its infancy stages directly back to my parents and family. ... So it is clear what kind of perspective I took on free speech. ... As I became a little older and a little more aware of the world around me I became considerably more interested in free speech and civil liberties. ... Although I am a white kid who comes from middle-class suburbia I would have to say that my third filter in the subject of free speech has to be rap music. ... So on top of what my teachers were trying to explain to me I was able to see for myself just how important free speech was. ... So rap music definitely gave me more insight into free speech controversy and I was able to mold my opinion into what I have today. ... Although I am a huge advocate of free speech and all civil liberties there are many people who think the opposite and it would not be morally correct for me not mention and acknowledge their views. Many people feel that freedom of speech gives people too many “freedoms” when it comes to the internet. Opponents of freedom of speech on the web feel that there is one major disadvantage/problem with freedom of speech on the web, but with that one problem comes many problems. That one problem is that some people like to abuse and misuse the right of freedom of speech on the web. ... There is also a rather large group of people who believe that the freedom of speech goes to far when it comes to burning the US flag.
