William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is often thought of as the greatest love story of all time. The extreme passion of the forbidden love between Romeo and Juliet only adds to the desperation and tragedy of the story. The Folger Shakespeare Library, (2001), referred to Luhrman’s portrayal of the blossoming romance between Romeo and Juliet as the “sex, drugs and rock-and-roll rendition of star-crossed love.” McCallum (2003) also comments on Luhrman’s focus on the physical passion between Romeo and Juliet through the use of a lot of sexual imagery. ...
