The crucible The Crucible is a film based on the screenplay by Arthur Miller, which is also called “The Crucible.” The cast of this movie contained many well-known actors, as well as a great director. The three main characters were John Proctor, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, Abigail Williams, played by Winona Ryder, and judge Danforth, played by Paul Scofeild. The Crucible was also directed and produced by Nicholas Hytner. I watched this film at my house on Saturday, September 29, 2003. The movie was released in April of 2002. In Salem Massachusetts in 1692, a gang of rebel teenage puritans is caught chanting and dancing in the woods naked. The next morning two of the girls could not wake. Without anything physically wrong with the girls to point to, the town blames the afflictions on witchcraft. Thus begins a witch-hunt in Salem. A former servant of John Proctor, Abigail Williams, was the leader of the girls.
