Like the Movie? You’ll Love the Book
“Deliverance is not a movie for the squeamish, but definitely one you simply must watch, if only for the banjo sequence which is such an enduring image. Of course, Beatty being told to ‘squeal like a piggy’ is an equally enduring image for its sheer unpleasantness, but I guess its one of the few movies to hit on the subject of male rape no matter how brutally it may be depicted. Definitely one to watch and a five star movie all the way.” Although the movie “Deliverance” has been given immense remarks and is staggeringly powerful, the book Deliverance is even better. The detail the book provides has a lasting impact, not just a rush of adventure. ...
Many movie reviews of “Deliverance” are from critics who have never even read the book. Reading the book first ruined the surprise and suspense of the movie, but I felt I had a better familiarity of everything going on because the book gives more insight into what kind of men they are and why they are taking this trip.
