Women’s Low Status and PowerThis chapter provides a brief overview of the current status of women all over the world. It offers a variety of evidence showing that females worldwide are generally lower in status and power, relative to males. This may be called gender stratification, although it is sometimes referred to as gender inequality, sexism, patriarchy, and female disadvantage.Status is not easy to define or to measure. Female status is generally defined in terms of the degree to which females have authority and / or power in the domestic and/ or public domains, and the degree to which females are accorded deferential treatment and are respected and revered in the domestic or public domains.
