Voltaires Candide

     When Voltaire wrote "Candide" his intention for the satire was to mock heads of state, religious leaders, elite, and generally the vices of human beings during 1750. "Candide" is a classic because astonishingly enough the vices that Voltaire wrote about are still very much evident in human beings today. As a result of Voltaires unique style of writing he has managed to make "Candides" themes universal, so that to a small degree every person no matter where they are in world can identify with the theme that is portrayed in the chapters. ... However the novel contains very realistic human characteristics that still exist 250 years later and that is one reason why "Candide" is a classic. ... For example after Candide saves the Barons life he still wont allow Candide and Cunegondés marriage "Thou mayest kill me again, but thou shalt not marry my sister, at least whilst I am living. ... Candide has saved the barons life but because he could only prove 71 quarterings he is not fit for Cunegondé, the Barons sister.
