Coming into the University Of Illinois Pharmacy School, I did not have the full understanding of the real role of a pharmacist. In the past, when I thought of a pharmacist, I would think of Walgreens, and the person in the white coat that dispenses various types of drugs to his/her patients. Another thought other then Walgreens that would come to my head is that of the independent pharmacist that one always sees on television. It was always known to me that a Pharmacist had a very important role in a patients well being, but after this course and these interviews, I am finally realizing that a Pharmacist must play an active role in the health care of his/her patients which will then end up benefiting the patient as well as the profession of Pharmacy by validating the important role that we as health care professionals play in the health care field. ... Actually, most of the pharmacists also could be grouped partially in the level two area because they all did in some way have additional services other then the traditional dispensing role. ... He has been an independent pharmacist in that area for a good 20 years.
