Uncovering the Past Recess was heaven delivered by the clock. The stale air hung heavy with chalk dust. Minuscule sounds echoed in the walls of my jail: squeak, tap tap, cough, tap tap. I watched the hands of the clock as they inched their way slowly towards freedom; there was a God. I stepped out into the sunlight and breathed in the fresh air. Freedom filled my lungs and I felt alive once more. My eyes searched the faces of my peers and I saw the same look of pure joy: the joy that could only come from a taste of freedom. The throng of students stood dazed for a second at the dazzling sun; its presence stolen by the creation of third grade. The moment of awe passed quickly as adrenaline coursed through our veins. I was ready for adventure, for discovery. I raced to the sand pit, our archeological site, to begin the process of uncovering a piece of the past.
