Out of Our Past

America today is no longer the same as America in the seventeenth-century. She has come a long way and accomplished many things politically, socially, and economically. Most of these accomplishments can be explained by looking into the past. Looking at the past can reveal the influences it had to shape America the way it is today and explain the political, social, and economic values. Today in America, the government is ruled by the people, therefore, called a democracy. This implies that the country is not under a dictatorship, where there is an absolute ruler that makes the final decision whether or not the people of the country were in favor of it. However, in colonial times, America was not always under a democracy. In the days when America was first discovered, during the days of the 13 colonies, America was under British rule.
