Over the last couple of weeks our IB Theater Arts class has been studying Tennessee Williams’ life and work. Before studying his renowned play “The Glass Menagerie” each student was required to write a short essay on Tennessee Williams’ life; from writing this essay I learned about his childhood, family life, education, triumphs, and sexual nature. This play was unique to me in a way because all most all the plays and books that are required to be read from school are usually a difficult read or are based on historical themes. But “The Glass Menagerie” didn’t have any hidden messages or aspects, which required analysis. I would describe this play, as “what you see is what you get”. “The Glass Menagerie” was a fairly simple play; the language was not much different than the dialect we speak in today.
