Literary Analysis: The Book of Sand
If one tried one could almost certainly single out the single most important element of fiction in any particular piece of literature. One can also single out the most important element of fiction in Jorge Luis Borges’ short story, The Book of Sand. The most important element of fiction in The Book of Sand is plot—hopefully anyone else doing a literary analysis on the story would come to the same conclusion. The reasons for plot’s being the most important element within The Book of Sand are simple: Although some may say that Tone is the most important element, the conflicts within the story along with the absence of a clear resolution at the end of the story more than warrant selecting plot as the premier element of fiction.
The level of conflict within The Book of Sand is very high.
