Question 1. What is FedEx’s strategy for competing in the overnight delivery industry? How has the company’s strategy evolved? How has FedEx altered its business model to include e-business solutions? FedEx’s business strategy for competing in overnight delivery industry is to provide on-time air/ground delivery of small packages overnight in the domestic area as well as global fast and reliable delivery. A central part of the creation of superior customer value is the 100% error-free record that is pursued. A special feature that positions FedEx apart from the competition is also the ability to track down every single package at any given time, a feature that gives the customer a feeling of security and thus a superior perceived customer value. Since its inception, FedEx has not only reflected, but also has led advances in business practices, services and technology applications. The evolution of FedEx’s strategies has mirrored the changing business environment and business leader’s vision. · During the first decade of FedEx Express’s establishment, the company’s chief strategy was directed initially toward survival as a new firm in a new industry and later toward laying the technical groundwork and geographic network for long-term growth. It focused on niche segment—overnight delivery market, and successfully avoided head-to-head competition against UPS; Capitalizing on the fast growing needs of businesses, FedEx invested heavily in its own physical transportation infrastructure.
