In the book, “Full Moon Racing”, two of the main characters, Gunner and Saxon, end up “homeless” on the streets of Brisbane. However, compared to children in the documentary “Nobody’s Children” and the information in “Youth homelessness – the facts”, this is not the case. Both Gunner and Saxon had homes to go to. It is claimed that young people are homeless if they have no accommodation at all. Although Gunner and Saxon spent a night in an abandoned warehouse, this does not show them as homeless youths. At any time, both adolescents could have gone back to their families. It was their own choice to stay in the warehouse, although they had other options. Also Gunner was welcome to stay at her friend’s house nearby the warehouse. It is further argued that many homeless youths have lost contact with family and friends who want nothing to do with them. This is not the case for Gunner and Saxon. Both teenagers were welcome to go back to their families.
