On 3rd April 1917, Lenin arrived in Petrograd, a virtual stranger to Russia and the Russian people. ...
Richard Pipes makes the following comments on Lenin;
"One need not believe in that history is made by "great men" to appreciate the immense importance of Lenin for the Russian Revolution and the regime that issued from it. It is not only that the power which he accumulated allowed Lenin to exert a decisive influence on the course of events but also that the regime which he established in October 1917 institutionalized, as it were, his personality. ... To what extent was Lenin the architect of this success and furthermore, is it fair to say that Lenin was the Bolshevik party? ... All this changed with the return of Lenin, whose cult of personality united a party with little fim united ideological belief, and lead them from the political abyss to the rulers of a one party state.
