My Personal Interests Since I was a little boy, I have always wanted to grow up and become a police officer. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. An uncle of mine was a firefighter, so whenever he had to respond to emergencies, I was right by his side. With all the excitement at a rescue, fire, or an accident, the lights and sirens astonished me. It was pretty unusual for an eight year old to be at the scenes, but if I was with my uncle, I was either in the fire truck or steadfast at his vehicle. The towns and villages in Northeastern Pennsylvania are pretty small: We had one police officer for several villages. Every call that we responded to, he was there, whether it was at 4:00pm or 3:00am. He was known throughout the county since he had such a large jurisdiction. Everyone respected him, not only because he was an officer of the law, but because he was also a law-abiding citizen like the rest of us. The reason I am interested in becoming a Pennsylvania State Trooper is because of the example that was set by that police officer, and other state troopers that I have came in to contact with. The professionalism those officers showed to me is the reason that attracted me to be a Pennsylvania State Trooper The Pennsylvania State Police was created by an Act of the legislature, which was signed into law by Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker on May 2, 1905.
