Angel Who I am now, is all because of a girl I met in my youth. Her name was Lindsey and she lived in the house next door to me for all of my youngest years. But it wasn’t until my 12th birthday that I finally met her. My mother had invited all the neighbors over, along with the list of school friends I presented her. It was a festive day, full of swimming in our pool, jumping on the trampoline, playing games of whiffle ball (one of the players included my dog), and of course running around the house driving all our parents mad. Near the end of the day, I was sitting on our porch trying to decide which of my gifts I should exploit first, when Lindsey approached me. A little chitchat and soon we were playing “Dinosaurs eating GI Joes”. Somehow we really clicked, and that was the start of our long lasting relationship. Through all of middle school it was a simple youthful relationship, spending most of our time at one or the other’s house playing games. But come the first year of high school, complicated thoughts and ideas came into play. We did not attend the same school, because I went to the one my older brother was at, and she with her older brother. It was convenient that we were the same age though. Lindsey and I remained closest of friends through all of freshman year. We both knew we were changing, but didn’t want to say anything to ruin what we had. OK that’s a fib; we were both too shy to strike up a conversation about relationships. So it wasn’t until our sophomore year that we dared change our childhood friendship, when my mother told us we should go check out a school dance. At the dance, when the first slow song came on, we both stared at each other for a long moment.
