THEME
Although the film “Pleasantville” had a great story, great directing, and amazing visual effects, it wasn’t able to express it’s message clearly. I have great admiration for this movie, but it fails to compose a primary theme. ... A main theme is present but other ideas are introduced, and this gives the viewers a mixed message.
The movie starts out with a teenage boy named David watching a 50’s sitcom called “Pleasantville“. ... Scenes in the background from the sitcom contrast how the teens’ lives are almost identical to the kids on “Pleasantville”. ... David presses the big red button and like magic, the two teens are transported into Pleasantville. ... With the two kids arriving from a very different society, it is expected that the two worlds will clash and the town of Pleasantville will be no more.
