During war time people often forget themselves and forget their morals. People change and get absorbed by the mass mood that is over the country due to the existing chaos during war. From “Cracking India” we can see that Bapsi Sidhwa sees the masses that riot as an angry beast. People would do such things that they would have never done before and use the ongoing war situation to excuse themselves for atrocious things that they have done. In cracking India Bapsi Sidhwa has used the character of Ayah to represent all the fallen women during the partition. The Simplified narration that is given through Lennie’s eyes helps us understand easier what the fallen women have gone through Ice candy man on the other hand represents the men that have committed rape and used the situation during the partition for personal benefits.
