Magic A story by Liz Rosenberg This story is centred on a Jewish girl and her family and how she experiences the Christian holiday known to us as Christmas, where the Christians and like-minded celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The story is set somewhere in the USA which you can somewhat tell by the facts that people drive around in Buicks and sing songs like “Mack the Knife”, a song that is very uncommon in, say, Europe but native to the Americans. The narrator is also the Jewish girl mentioned above. The only information we get in the text about how she behaves is that she is apparently very polite towards other people and she has a child’s love of the Christmas holiday. The reason for this is that it’s regarded as a happy holiday where can children can play and people give each other presents. Her dilemma is that she is Jewish and should therefore not be allowed to celebrate Christmas for religious reasons.
