I’m doing my critical essay on the works/paintings of artist Carlo Maria Mariani. His paintings appear in the McGrath Gallery in NY. I find his work unique and interesting; however, I noticed that the same face appears in every painting (repetition). Also, I notice the facial expressions in which he gives this face; its not a happy face, its more or less a face of fear, sadness, or a face in which the person seems lost and confused. In the painting “The City 2,” I see the painting in the view point as the giant face representing fear and anxiety in the people of NY after the attacks on 9/11.
