Set against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War, “The Patriot”, directed by Roland Emmerich, displays great amounts of patriotism. It is written by Robert Rodat, who also wrote “Saving Private Ryan”. The action-packed film is produced by Dean Devlin, Mark Gordon, and Gary Levinsohn. Released in 2000, Columbia Pictures presents an exciting, edge-of-your-seat film. Mel Gibson plays Benjamin Martin, a gentle farmer in his 40’s who has complicated love for his family. All seven of his kids range in age from very young to teenage years. Gabriel (Heath Ledger), Martin’s eldest son, is determined to enlist in action against the British.
