Observation Exercise To complete the observation exercise, I went to the Oxford Valley Mall. I chose the mall because it I figured that there would be a lot of people and a lot of diversity all in one place at one time. I ended up choosing three people to observe. Each person was very different by appearance so that I would be able to perceive very different things about each person. The first person I chose to observe was a male who was probably between the ages of 18 to 23 years old. My selection of this person was probably rooted in the tendency of humans to notice things that are different from the norm. This particular person that I chose was over weight, had many tattoos, dyed green hair and several facial piercings. He was wearing baggy shorts and a tank top to display his tattoos. Based on his appearance alone I was able to make several assumptions in order to categorize this person. From his hair and piercings alone I could tell that this person was probably into the punk rock lifestyle and maybe plays a musical instrument. His appearance also leads me to believe that this person was either a student or worked for a living. If he was working for a living, he more than likely held a blue collar job because it would be difficult to get a white collar job with all his visible tattoos.
