Good and Evil in King Lear

The theme of good and evil is the core of a majority of stories. The theme is presented in King Lear and is one of the main themes that William Shakespeare tries to portray. Evil between the characters and in the world are emphasized throughout the play. In the bible, Mark 7, 21-22: ˇ§For from within, out of a personˇ¦s heart, come evil thought deceive lewdness Slander greed arrogance folly, all these evils come from inside and make a man uncleanˇ¨ best summarizes all of the evil acts that occur in the whole play. Though evil in the play might seem predominant, In King Lear, Shakespeare asserts the perfection of harmonious order and the inevitable triumph of justice, with the forces of evil preying upon and destroying themselves. In the play the evil subvert the good, but finally good must be victorious.
As evil is evident in the play, we can see that the sins of Cornwall, Goneril, Regan and Edmund are parallel and are based solely to extend their individual social status.
