Paper Sons had to endure many hardships while facing the reality that their lives were all based around one huge lie. ... This method of illegal immigration started the era of Paper Sons that would soon flourish out of China. Becoming a Paper Son meant sacrificing your own real life for that of a new and false identity. ... They were aware of Paper Sons and developed small interrogation stations that verified immigrants and the identities that they gave. ... Females or “Paper Daughters” were very seldom since families believed that a strong male would be more suitable in America. Along with the false documents, coaching papers or notes were given to the Paper Sons and Daughters to memorize so that they would be able to pass the interrogation exams. The notes consisted of basic facts about their Paper Parent down to highly specific details. Despite the hardships that the Paper Sons and Daughters had to endure to simply gain a chance of entering America, they continued on.
