     In recent years, the family structure of the average household has changed dramatically (Palermo and Simpson 1994). Many studies have been done to find out whether these changes have any correlation to a rise in crime. It is suggested that the family is an integral part of society because through this institution, social and moral values are taught. ... However, if a person is not properly taught social and moral values, how will they be dissuaded from committing a crime? ...
     With so many marriages disrupted and incomplete, questions and concerns have been rising towards the effect they will have on society. Lack of adequate role models, moral support and parental supervision are just a few things that may bring children to the streets where crime is high. This research will discuss the factors within the family structure that may contribute to crime in our society.
