GCSE SCIENCE COURSEWORK
The Effect of temperature on particles
Aim:
To investigate the effect of temperature on reactions.
Prediction:
My prediction is that, the hotter the temperature gets the quicker the reaction will be.
Scientific Explanation :
The explanation for my prediction is that, as particles get hotter, their movement becomes faster, because the energy in particles are greatest when the particles are hot, and so because the particles have more energy they are able to move around a lot quicker and so they collide more. The collision between particles is what causes a reaction.
Therefore, the rate of the reaction will be quickest when the temperature is hottest.
The equation for this experiment is:
Sodium Thiosulphate + Hydrochloric acid Sulphur +
NaS2O 3HCL S
Sodium chloride + Sulphur dioxide + Water
2NaCL SO2 H20
Here is a diagram showing particles in the 3 different states of matter;
Safety:
The safety procedures that we undertook were wearing safety glasses, this was so that, if any chemicals splashed, no chemicals would enter my eyes. ...
I then heated the Sodium Thiosulphate , until I had reached my chosen temperature. ...
I then repeated these steps 4 more times, but each time changing the temperature at which I had heated the Sodium Thiosulphate.
