Dr Mary Klages・ distinction of the different stages of capitalism is pertinent to understanding the connection between consumerism and post-modernism, and the principle upon which Fight Club is founded. Just as the early 20th century era of monopoly capitalism, the motor car and the assembly line was associated with modernism and modernity, the current era of consumer capitalism, mass-consumption and electronic technologies is associated with post-modernism and post-modernity. ... In the post-modern way, Tyler attempts to deconstruct the ．grand narrative・ of corporate capitalism by ：saving； Jack and then drawing more men into Fight Club, ：building an army； to execute local, small-scale terrorist objectives as a form of protest.
